Recently dmg Radio was looking for a way to innovate their image galleries for all of the Nova Stations in Australia. They wanted a system that would easily allow users to submit photos and an admin system to distribute the galleries almost instantly. They wanted to be able to attach galleries to particular radio shows, to be able to track data, and for everything to work seamlessly with their own websites (ad content, commenting, etc)
In less than two weeks we developed and launched a Ruby On Rails based application that handles photo content via email. Users simply email in their photos (each station has its own unique email address). The photos are then automatically resized with the gallery title set by the email subject, and descriptive text pulled from the email as well. The application also allows admins to bulk upload photos from their desktop as .zip files.
Station admins are alerted to incoming galleries and can either publish the galleries as they are or use the custom built CMS to control the images. Admins can tag photos, delete, send them to other galleries, add gallleries to specific shows and more.
Listeners of the stations can also MMS images directly to the Gallery application as well. What used to be a very time consuming affair can now be completed in a matter of minutes.
